The Unlikely Adventures Of The Shergill Sisters - Book Review
The Unlikely Adventures Of The Shergill Sisters ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Author - Balli Kaur Jaswal
Publisher - Harper Collins
My second book by Balli Kaur Jaswal and equally interesting after "Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows". A little predictable, of course, this book is about 3 sisters going to a pilgrimage to fulfill their mother's last wish. Their pilgrimage to Northern India, to disperse their mother's ashes, is beautifully described with the historical and rhetorical importance kept in mind.
Rajni, Jezmeen and Shirina - 3 British Punjabi sisters, hold 3 different temperaments and never shared a great rapport with each other. However, during their trip together to India, they came closer and interacted with each other clearing away their past misunderstandings making way for joy and warmth in the relationship.
Ms. Jaswal portrayed not only the sweet and sour inevitabilities of sisterhood but also the downtrodden attitude towards women in certain cultures, taboo of having a girl child and the impact it leaves on a modern woman.
Overall, an interesting read and I'd certainly recommend this.
