'Salem's Lot - Book Review

'Salem's Lot - Book Review - Incredible Opinions

My second book by Stephen King in chronological order and it has surpassed the expectations I had after reading the first one by him, Carrie.

‘Salem’s Lot is about vampires in the fictional town of ‘Salem’s Lot, Maine. A tragedy happened in the town some years ago and it haunted the whole town and “Marsten House”. A writer, Ben Mears, returns to the town to settle some horrible childhood memories associated with the town and is caught up in the terror of the town.

"“The basis of all human fears, he thought. A closed door, slightly ajar.” ― Stephen King, 'Salem's Lot

I haven’t read a lot of vampire novels but if they are as good as ‘Salem’s Lot, I am going to read them too. The numerous characters in the book are so relatable and they make you shed some tears on their tragedies. I fall in love with all of them. Stephen King’s way of describing the main antagonist, Barlow, is guaranteed to give you creepy shrills. The sheer talent of writing horror is superbly demonstrated in this book.

The ending is perfect and I liked how Stephen King joined the beginning and the end of the story with such interesting prose. I could see the book played like a movie in my mind. I can, undoubtedly, reread this classic sometime soon and is my new favourite Stephen King’s book.

Highly recommended if you are a Stephen King fan or not, read vampires or not but appreciate good writing with twists, mystery and fantastic characterization.
