Review
I loved Jennifer Hillier's latest book "Little Secrets", and it made me pick her backlist title "Jar Of Hearts" which is also a highly recommended book. THE HYPE IS REAL, and here is why.
The book opens with the main character going to a correctional centre for five-years because she is involved in the murder of her best friend 15 years ago along with her then-boyfriend, who is also serving the jail-term accused as a serial killer. She is adjusting with the harsh and abusing life of the correctional institute, considering it as penance for what she did with her best friend. When everyone believed that the serial killer (her boyfriend) is in prison, he escapes, and the murders begin again.
I don't know where to start, but I was hooked from the very first chapter. A courtroom scene and then the prison, the settings are so skillfully described by the author that I felt witnessing the case personally.
I loved the flow of the story, and it is a perfect page-turner. I loved the suspense build-up from the very first chapter. Although I was able to guess what was going to happen, I was still hooked and kept reading it. The last line of each chapter was a perfect cliffhanger and made me read the next chapter.
The book has a lot of gory scenes, including dark violence, child homicide, dismemberment and rapes. The author also hit hard with her writing when a society is not ready to accept a person warmly even after serving their prison term. I loved Jennifer's writing style. She conveyed the message skillfully that our past modifies us and overcoming our past is impossible.
Overall, a very engaging book, and I'd recommend it to all the suspense and thriller lovers.
